2. Some say that the trombone was described by Beethoven and other composers as the "Voice of God". The range of the trombone resembles closer to the range of the human voice more than any other instrument. The funeral of Ludwig von Beethoven had a trombone quartet written by Beethoven.
3. Trombonists usually have a lot of rests until they get to play such as in Beethoven's 5th symphony.
4."The trombone is too sacred for frequent use." was a quote by Felix Mendelssohn. Which might explain why the trombone wasn't used much in his music.
5. The first known use of the trombone was for a wedding. It was for the marriage of the Duke of Burgundy in 1468.
6. Here's a cool picture of a Conn G bass trombone (left).
7. A buccin was a cool looking trombone that was popular in France in military bands between 1810-1845 AD. There is not a lot of surviving music for it. Around the same time the buccin was popular, there were many other instruments with animal or legendary animal heads, as it looks cool when you are playing something like that. The sound of the buccin is a bit of a cross of between a trombone and a French horn. It has a very warm, delicate sound at soft volumes because the bell is made of hammered tin or very thin brass. Here's some pictures of the buccin.
